Walter Hannstein not only started Finca La Paz. In 1945 he also bought land in Panajachel, near lake Atitlan where he set up a second home that eventually grew into a hotel.
The Rancho Grande Inn is still there and still one of the finest hotels in the region. Marlita Hannstein, who, with her son, owns and runs Finca La Paz, also owns the hotel.
No trip to Guatemala is complete without coming to Lake Atitlan, considered by many to be the most beautiful lake in the world, and once there, the Rancho Grande Inn is the best place to stay.
